Obama Border Security: Wooden Signs

Written by B.A.N. Staff on October 28, 2010, 09:24 PM
Thanks to the Obama administration’s open-borders policies and complete indifference to enforcing immigration laws, Mexican sicarios (otherwise known as well-armed drug cartel assassins) have crossed into Arizona as part of the Mexican drug wars. The Washington Times reports, “one of the most dangerous Mexican drug cartels has sent 15 sicarios disguised as backpackers into Arizona’s Vekol Valley—a widely traveled smuggling corridor—to kill drug bandits.” These drug cartel members are operating 70 miles from the border and approximately 30 miles away from Phoenix, the 5th largest city in the United States.

Drug cartel violence is seeping into our nation and our own President has taken no action whatsoever to secure the border. Since taking office, the tactics Obama has introduced to “secure” our border are beyond embarrassing and disappointing, they are downright scary. Obama pledged to put 1,200 National Guard soldiers along the border, however, his promise-like usual-proved nothing more than empty rhetoric. To date, Obama has stationed 532 soldiers along the border (less than half the promised amount) and, to make matters worse, the soldiers are not even allowed to arrest illegal aliens and are only there to serve as additional “eyes” and “ears” to help border patrol. B.A.N. co-chair, Senator Russell Pearce, points out the ridiculousness of soldiers unable to enforce immigration laws, saying, “We send them overseas in harm’s way but we don’t let them defend our own borders in a proper manner.”

Besides wasting a valuable resource by sending National Guard troops who are not allowed to enforce immigration laws, Obama’s only other "border security gesture" has been to put up a series of signs of 15 wooden signs posted along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8.

The signs—posted in the same area the sicarios are headed—read “DANGER – PUBLIC WARNING, TRAVEL NOT RECOMMENDED. Active Drug and Human Smuggling Area. Visitors May Encounter Armed Criminals and Smuggling Vehicles Traveling at High Rates of Speed. Stay Away from Trash, Clothing, Backpacks, and Abandoned Vehicles. If You See Suspicious Activity, Do Not Confront! BLM Encourages Visitors To Use Public Land North of Interstate 8.”

When heavily equipped drug cartel members view these wooden signs, they are not going to turn back to Mexico, they are, instead, going to interpret each sign as a waving white flag of surrender that tells the drug cartels that they have won.  We are dealing with heavily armed, ruthless, lawless Mexican drug cartels; we are going to need much more from our U.S. President than some wooden signs and additional "eyes" and "ears."  We need a president who puts the safety and security of Americans before all else and who will standup to Mexican cartels, end the open-borders and pro-amnesty policies, and get tough on border security.
